Road Safety

Road safety talk:

This week has been a very eventful week. On Thursday the 11th of December all of the TY's over Kildare went to a road safety talk in Punches town. It was so good because we got to see all of our friends from other schools and go around together. What we didn't know was that we would get to meet one of the most beautiful actors from home and away, Andrew Morley. This made my life! I got a lot of pictures with him.
When it was time to go and listen to the talk, four of us ran up to the front so we could get a good seat to see Andrew because he was going to be talking for a while. It was really interesting because he talked about his time as a firefighter and about the accidents he would see everyday. He also told us a story about how he saw his neighbour crash and ended up dying in front of him. The talk was really interesting and it was definitely the best day of TY so far..

Fashion Show

Fashion Show

This week we had our fashion show. It was held in the Celbridge Manor hotel on Tuesday and Wednesday. Lots of TY's volunteered to volunteered to model in the fashion show or to work backstage, others went and got a stall to set up their mini company products.
On Tuesday I went with my group to set up our stall for the fashion show. Our group is called CherĂ, we make personalised notebooks. There was only two of us from our mini company group that weren't modeling in the fashion show so we stayed at the stall. Many people loved our product and bought it. I am glad that we went as it was a good opportunity to sell our product.
Overall the fashion show was really good and I think that everyone who went really enjoyed it.

This week we went to the carton house for an art exhibition in the Carton house in Maynooth. Here we looked at vanishing art, here you look at the sculptures that are slowly dying out. When we went in there were lots of sculptures both inside and out

We also saw the Irish rugby team training in the gym at the Carton house. Overall it was a really good day and I enjoyed it.

Mini Company

Mini Company:

This week we have been sorting out our mini company projects. My group name is CherĂ, which means darling in french, we are making personalised notebooks.
This week, on Tuesday Serena came in to the school to talk to us about our mini company ideas and to help us improve on them, she gave us lots of advice and told us to make a prototype. Our prototype turned out really well, and Serena really liked our idea and told us some advice on getting our company started. We have bought most of our products for our notebooks and now we just have to start making them. We are hoping to have a good few made by the 25th and 26th of November so we can start to sell at the fashion show. So far our mini company has been going really well.

Halloween Dress up

Halloween Dress up:

This week we didn't have any trips, but today we have our Halloween dress up as it is the last day of school before midterm. Each year has a different theme, the TY theme is zombies. Not everyone dressed up, but the people who did look really like zombies. I think that the zombie theme was a really good theme as it is easy to dress up as.
Also today in our french class our teacher is bringing in french food for us to try so hopefully we will be watching a french movie too. I cant wait to try some of the french foods that she brings in.

World mental health day

World mental health awareness day
World Mental Health Day is celebrated worldwide on the 10th of October. It is an opportunity to bring awareness to mental health on an international, national and local scale, informing and educating people about mental health and to work towards creating a non-judgmental space for people struggling with their mental health to open up and talk.
To raise awareness for world mental health day in our school, we all get to wear in our own shoes, whatever you want, such as slippers, uggs, and even sandals. Each person who does wear their own shoes into school have to bring in two euro each, which then goes towards the walk in my shoes charity. The charity provides mental health services to vulnerable young adults who might not be able to afford the help they need. It also encourages young adults to get the help they need, and to help them understand that people are there for them.

Fun Walk

Fun Walk

This week we had our school fun walk. For our fun walk we choreographed a dance that had to be linked with friendship week and anti bullying. All TY classes had to wear yellow. Because our class is Ariel we decided to base our friendship story on The Little Mermaid movie. Our tutor Mr Lawless dressed as a shark, Sarah dressed as Ariel and the rest of us were flounders. The main story line to our dance was that the flounders and Ariel were scared of the shark but then they finally listen to him when he says that he just wants to be friends. At the end they are all dancing together to show that they have become friends.
After everyone did their dance we had to go on our walk. TY classes were traffic coordinators for our walk.
Overall I thought our fun walk was very good and positive.

Carlingford

Carlingford

Last week we went to Carlingford adventure center. I really enjoyed Carlingford! We learned how to team build and learn to depend on one another by doing group activities.
On Monday morning i woke at 6am to be at esso in Celbridge for 7am. When we arrived at esso there were two buses waiting to bring us to Carlingford. It took us around two hours to get there and when we arrived we got assigned our rooms.
Later that day we did laser tag which i found most fun and was one of my favorites and after that we went for dinner and then we had time to relax and go to the sweet shop.
The next morning we woke to music playing on the intercom. We got up and went for breakfast, then we went rowing, this was also one of my favorites as we rowed over to the water trampoline and we jumped off it into the water. After this we had lunch and then walked up to our group bonding activity.
Overall I really enjoyed Carlingford and i would definitely go back.

Digital Dossier

My Digital Dossier

Your digital Dossier is the same as saying your digital footprint or file. It is the information that has been linked to you since before you were born. The first entry into your digital dossier is an ultrasound, this when the mother sees her child for the first time. This ultrasound is then shared by email, text or any other media sites. The ultrasound is then copied into your hospital file. As you grow, the amount of items in your digital dossier grow too, and they keep growing past your life. Friends and family will also add to your digital dossier by taking pictures and videos and sharing them by text, facebook, emails etc. As you grow you share your own information about yourself and you are constantly adding to your digital dossier. On your social media sites, what you search on google or even when you walk passed a CCTV camera, literally everything you do adds to your digital dossier.

JC Results

Week Two:

This week was the week of our Junior Cert results. On Wednesday the 10th of September was the day we received our results. This was both a nerve wrecking and exciting day.
We were told to be in  school by 11;50 in full school uniform. To be honest it only really hit me that we were getting our results as i stood in the hall hesitating to open my results. Overall i am pleased with my results. Wednesday night was the exciting part of the day when we all got to go out and celebrate our results.
Also this week has been the week where we got assigned a lot of our project work. We really will have to put a lot of work into them as most of them go towards our Christmas results.
I am really looking forward to working as a group in TY and being assigned group projects as it will help us to listen to one another and to work as a team.

Week One of TY

Week One:

This week was our first full week of TY, on Wednesday we had our first workshops.
For our first workshop we learned about first aid. Here we learned how to do the Heimlich remover, CPR, how to make a sling, and other basic first aid routines.
We also learned how to have good etiquette in our second workshop, here we learned how to walk in high heels, what type of underwear is appropriate for certain clothing, and also we saw a presentation on a power point about body image and how everyone should see themselves as beautiful and unique.
For our last workshop, we had a positive parties workshop, in this workshop we had to learn to be positive and how to make good things out of bad situations. We danced to songs and got time to relax in this workshop.
